Our first Food Fair

The Hoylake Local Food Fair held at the Community Centre on Sunday 31st October 2010 was a wonderful success! We had over 2000 visitors between 10 a.m. and 2 p.m. The attendance exceeded our wildest expectations. The stall holders were extremely happy with their sales- some were left with empty tables! A good variety of produce was on sale, all sourced from Wirral, Cheshire and North Wales- vegetables, bread and cakes, jams and preserves and meats- including buffalo steaks.

Our coffee bar provided refreshments to revitalise our visitors.

And to help our visitors decide what to do with the food they’d bought, La Paz restaurant in West Kirby kindly loaned us their two chefs to give three free cookery demonstrations. The first demonstration covered starters and showed how to make Butternut Squash soup, the second demonstration of a main course gave us tips on cooking Beef Wellington, and the third demonstration of a desert showed us the finer points of making fondants. Many thanks to La Paz and their chefs for an interesting and informative time!

We would also like to thank organizer Margaret Campbell of Transition Town West Kirby for all her hard work. Also our local MP, Esther McVey, for opening the fair. And thank you to all our visitors for making the occasion so successful.
