Picture of the Community Centre buildingThe Centre is a charity whose aim is to provide facilities for recreational and learning activities for adults and children of the community. It has a variety of accommodation of various sizes and includes two halls, smaller rooms, purpose-built art room and a coffee bar. The ground floor is accessible by a ramp and is fully wheelchair accessible.

The Centre hires out the accommodation to teachers and function organisers. It does not run any classes itself. The teachers and organisers set their own course rates or admission charges.

See the lists of our regular Activities and our one-off and occasional Events.

We need help in running the Centre

The Centre is situated at the seaward end of Hoyle Road, at its junction with North Parade. It has 40 car parking spaces. The nearest bus stop is on the main street in Hoylake and is a few minutes walk away. Manor Road railway station is on the Liverpool-West Kirby Line and is about ten minutes walk away. To enter the Centre, see Site Layout. To find your class/meeting room, see Building Layout.

Depending on availability, we are always glad to provide accommodation for all your meeting requirements during the daytime or evening, whether they be one-off or for a regular activity or learning class. We can provide accommodation ranging from small seminar rooms to a hall seating 120, see Lettings/Accommodation. To book a room, simply contact us at the Parade or call in to discuss your requirements. If you don’t see a room which matches your requirements, we may be able to divide or join our rooms. All room bookings include the use of our coffee bar with seating area (small charge for drinks). The bar includes a small kitchen which can be used by outside caterers (a list can be supplied on request) to serve meals with an event. We can arrange for drinks, sandwiches and buffets to be delivered to your meeting for an additional charge. Free wi-fi is available in some areas of the building.

The Centre has a purpose-built Soft Play Area for people with special needs. This is maintained by the Wednesday Special Needs Club (WSNC).

Wirral Borough Council intends to withdraw its subsidies to the Centre and the Centre will then have to become self-financing. The only way that it will survive is to maintain an adequate level of income. We need to increase the occupancy rates of the rooms and the number of rooms being used, particularly in the day time. So come to learn a new language or craft or get some exercise or loosen up with our health activities. Maybe you could start a new class to teach others about one of your interests or craft skills. If you don’t use the Centre, you’ll lose it!

Volunteer manning Reception DeskWe would be grateful for more volunteers to man the Reception or help with administration. We would also be glad of people with professional qualifications who could enhance the skill base of our management committee. Help Wanted! If you would like to volunteer or have any suggestions, please contact the office on the above phone number on Monday to Friday within normal office hours.

For the story of how the redundant Parade School became the Community Centre, see History of the Centre. In June 2009 we celebrated the centenary of the Parade school.
